My toddler, Sebastian, received a Little Tikes Easy Score Basketball Set for Christmas and loves playing ball with it. As we were taking it out of the box I immediately noticed the awesome canvas I had on the backboard and knew that eventually I would do something fun with it. Well I finally got to deliver on that idea and featured our home team the Chicago Bulls on the backboard. It was fairly easy to do and loads of fun!
All of the supplies needed for this project can be found at any craft store. I found the Chicago Bulls sticker logo on Amazon for a very good price. For the letters, I used my Cricut Cutting Machine to cut them out but letter stickers will work just fine.
I painted the center of the backboard free handed, there are ridges along the edges that guided me to keep straight lines. If needed, painters tape can be used to ensure straight lines. I found it very easy to fix any mistakes with a baby wipe, we have plenty of those all over the house. I painted two coats onto the backboard, letting each coat dry over night. The first coat was done with a paint brush adding a generous amount of paint. The second coat was done with the foam brush to eliminate any paint brush marks.
The letters were then attached using Modge Podge adhesive. I first positioned the letters with a bit of tape in order to get the correct spacing and alignment. Then I added the Modge Podge adhesive to the back of the letters using a small paint brush. I also let the letters set and dry overnight.
And just like that this project was complete. The hardest part was preventing Sebastian from playing with it while everything dried. He may not have noticed any changes to his basketball hoop but this mama had lots of fun hacking it! My baby boys don’t even know it yet but they are getting a head start to becoming Chicago sports fans!
