Valentine’s Day Baby Pictures

It’s Alexander’s first Valentine’s Day and of course that means it’s time for a photo shoot! It’s super easy to take pictures of him since he can’t run away from me like his brother Sebastian does. So I definitely find any excuse to start snapping away with my camera.

Alexander, currently 3 months old, does very well in front of a camera. He is very curious on anything that is placed in front of him so he looks right at the camera, which makes my job easy. The hard part is keeping his brother Sebastian entertained long enough. You can’t tell but Sebastian is running around in the background destroying some of the props I had planned to use, thanks buddy!

Here are some of the best ones. Alex kept wanting to put the flower in his mouth and somehow managed to tear feathers out of my DIY Cupid Wings. With a bit of hot glue, those wings will look brand new again. Details on the DIY Cupid Wings can be found here.

DIY Valentine’s Day Baby Photos

I couldn’t be happier with how these cupid wings came out. They were very easy to make using very little material. Then I used simple items like a rose and box of chocolates as photo props for our Valentine’s Day photo shoot. I even used the props to decorate my console table in my entryway. I had lots of fun and love the way the pictures came out.

I used an old box to make and cut wings.

Then I used a glue gun to adhere a feather boa bought from Michaels. I attached two strands of white yarn to the center and tied around my sons shoulders.

My baby wasn’t too trilled about wearing the cupid wings but was more excited with playing with the rose.

Then I used the props to decorate my entryway console table. I normally don’t decorate my home for Valentine’s day but I may start doing this since I love the change of scenery on my console table.

Baby Handprint Keepsake

I just love to admire my 9 month old son’s hands and feet. Well in reality I love to admire everything about him but his hands and feet are so little and so chubby that I just can’t help myself!

I wanted to have a keepsake of them since they are something I want to always remember. I purchased my handprint kit at Target. It came in a kit with foam stars and stickers to use to decorate it into a Christmas ornament but I decided not to use the stickers it came with and instead have fun with it by adding some sparkle.

These are the materials I used.

Materials used for baby handprint keepsakeI started with the handprint itself and applied two coats of mod podge and glitter, allowing it to dry completely in between each coat. Then I did the white surrounding area the same way. Finally, I added a ribbon to the back with a glue gun.

I’m very pleased with how it came out. At first I tried to paint it but did not like how all the creases showed through the paint so decided glitter would work best.

I know this keepsake is something that will always touch my heart. Years from now when my son is older I will have this keepsake to remember all the little things his little hands can and will do.

New Years Tree

Are you still turning on your Christmas tree after Christmas has ended? Not ready to put it away? Turn it into a New Years Tree!

SONY DSC

It’s exactly what I did this year. I came up with the idea last minute but I love the way it came out. Everything was purchased from Party City and I only spent about $25! That’s including a few extra hats for my family and I to wear. I even have a few left over banners that I can use around the house.SONY DSCSONY DSC

Next year I plan to personalize my new years tree by including picture ornaments of past new years festivities. Here are few ideas on how to personalize your own tree…

  • add accomplishments or reminders of special moments of the year
  • add anything to encourage you with your new years resolutions
  • add party hats, streamers or noise makers…anything that you used to celebrate
  • add your favorite ornaments
  • add cutouts of stars, champagne glasses, hats…anything that reminds you of a new years celebration
  • if you traveled, add any souvenirs you brought back from your tripSONY DSC

The opportunities to personalize your own tree are endless. It is a great way to look back at the year and reminisce on all the good and bad moments you had. Bad moments only make us stronger because we learn from everything that happens in our lives. We learn what not to do, how to make improvements, how to better ourselves and even how to value the little things when they are gone.

Visit your local craft store for more ideas on what to include in your new years tree. If you make it after the new year you may even score on some sweet discounts!! What better way to continue enjoying the holidays by making minor changes to your Christmas tree. Now the only problem is I may want to keep changing the theme as an excuse to leave my tree up!

Happy New Year!!SONY DSC
